What are lasers?

Laser is an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Some lasers give out miniscule pulses of light, while others send out a continuous beam.

Lasers are nearly ubiquitous in our society. You likely use them dozens of times a day without even thinking about it. Every time you scan an item at the self-checkout kiosk, play a Blu-Ray, or see a light show at a concert, you’re interacting with lasers. But lasers are perhaps most useful in the field of medicine – and dentistry is no exception.

What is laser dentistry?

Lasers can remove minute amounts of both hard and soft tissues. Dr. Ragsdale uses hard tissue lasers to prepare teeth for restorative treatment, such as crowns and fillings. Soft tissue lasers are ideal for cosmetic gum contouring, as well as periodontal treatment, since the high energy can also destroy bacteria. Plus, DIAGNOdent® laser cavity detection can reveal cavities in the initial stages.

What are the benefits of dental lasers?

Laser dentistry is so beneficial that the global market for dental lasers is expected to grow by 11% between 2020 and 2025. Their advantages include:

  • More accurate tissue removal
  • Quieter, faster treatment
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Shortened recovery times
  • No jarring vibrations or loud noises
  • Reduced or eliminated need for dental anesthesia
  • More thorough destruction of harmful bacteria
  • Stronger bonds for restorations

What is our in-house dental plan?

Dental insurance can be expensive. Average monthly premiums in Texas range from $19 to $109 for individuals and families. And many Texas do not have dental insurance at all. Even for those who do, insurance may not cover much beyond basic preventive care. This can leave patients with enormous out-of-pocket costs.

Our in-house dental plan offers an alternative to insurance. In addition to free preventive services, members receive a 20-30% discount on restorative treatment and a 10% discount on cosmetic care. Plus, when you sign up, you automatically qualify for free teeth whitening.

How do we integrate laser technology with our in-house plan?

With our in-house plan, you will benefit from our innovative tools at no additional cost. Dr. Ragsdale uses lasers in preventive exams when she looks for cavities. If you require discounted restorative care, she will prep your teeth with lasers. Plus, our laser teeth whitening can yield more dramatic results than standard whitening protocol.
